A timeline for award has not yet been established.** The Bay Area Toll Authority (BATA) in cooperation with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is improving the current multimodal access on Interstate 580 (I-580) within Marin and Contra Costa Counties, including the Richmond-San Rafael (RSR) Bridge. The completed portion of the project includes multimodal access improvements that accommodate bicycle and pedestrian access on the upper bridge deck (westbound), and a third lane on the lower deck (eastbound). Bicycle and pedestrian access on the upper deck of the RSR Bridge included the installation of a barrier to separate bicyclists and pedestrians from vehicles. The Richmond-San Rafael Bridge Access Improvement Project is being constructed in phases to better accommodate schedule and impacts where Package A and B1 construction are complete. This Package B2 consists of constructing a 10-ft wide bikeway on sidewalk on the north side of East Francisco Boulevard between the hook westbound on-ramp and Grange Way and utility relocation improvements along East Francisco Boulevard, San Rafael.
