The South Carolina Department of Transportation proposes to replace the S-33 (Cedar Springs Street) bridge over Long Cane Creek with a new bridge in the same location. SCDOT intends for the bridge to be closed and traffic to be detoured during construction. The existing bridge was built in 1961 and is currently load restricted. SCDOT will monitor the existing bridge from now until construction of the new bridge begins. The project is part of SCDOT`s Strategic 10 year Plan to greatly reduce the number of closed and load restricted bridges in the State of South Carolina. Per owner: The District 7 bridge project is complete. US 21 over Big Wateree Creek in Fairfield County is reopened with repairs ongoing on the underside of the bridge. SC 215 over the Sandy River in Chester County is ongoing and is anticipated to open in May of 2024. As of March 15, 2024, per owner, this project is currently in the preliminary engineering phase. SCDOT is working to identify funding to continue to advance the project and no further construction details are available at this time. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
