The EMS is intended to guide the department as it integrates environmental compliance into its decision-making process at all levels of the organization. The departments EMS program is generally confined to its internal maintenance operations and other supporting activities. A such, the EMS program does not include activities associated with roadway construction or associated cultural, natural, and biological resources environmental work. The EMS program also does not include employee health and safety related programs or asbestos and lead-based paint programs; these types of work are managed by other Bureaus and departments independent of the EMS program.
