Bridge Replacement Project-US 29-P030403 The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) proposes to replace the US 29 (East Cherokee Street) bridge over Southern Railroad in Cherokee County. The project includes replacing the existing bridge structure with a new bridge that meets current design and safety standards. The existing US 29 facility, built in 1928, is a 108' X 38' concrete bridge with 4.2 feet of Sidewalk on each side. The proposed bridge will be a 70' x 41.29' simple span steel girder bridge, with 20' approach slabs and 5'-6" of sidewalk on the south side of the bridge. As of December 19, 2023, Construction – Early 2024. Construction Duration ~ 18 months. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly.
