The Falkenburg AWTF unexpectedly exceeded its permitted capacity due to significant growth and a faulty influent flowmeter that appears to have significantly underreported plant flow for an indefinite period. As a result, the County is unable to allow any new connections within the Falkenburg AWTF service area. Given the potential adverse impact on the community and area development, the Water Resources Department (WRD) has taken immediate action to divert flow away from the facility to provide relief and maintain permit compliance; however, additional capacity is urgently needed to alleviate the shortage. WRD intends to increase the permitted capacity by 3.0 MGD with the deployment of a modular unit comprised of trailer-mounted or skid-mounted membrane units with a field-erected bioreactor to supplement current wastewater processing operations. Evoqua Water Technologies LLC/Xylem is the only known firm able to provide the desired modular unit and in an expedited manner.
