This project is included in the City of Parkland's fiscal years 2024-2028 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). As of November 29, 2023, further details regarding design and construction have not been identified. A firm timeline for construction has not been established; however, funding for construction is allotted to fiscal year 2024. A detailed scope has not yet been released. To provide a safe, secure, and healthy working environment for police and fire department personnel housed in Parklands Public Safety/Fire Station 97 facility, this project will replace four bay doors, install no-slip flooring, and add air conditioning to the firefighters gear room along with other minor improvements. The bay doors in this facility do not meet current standards for wind-resistance and are at risk of failing during storm events. New bay doors will ensure the continued operation of this station. The original flooring throughout this 19-year-old facility shows significant wear and presents a slip-and fall/trip hazard. The gear room where fire department personnel store and put on their turnout gear has no air conditioning. How firefighting clothing is stored has a direct impact on its life and effectiveness as a protective tool. NFPA 1851 specifies clean, dry, well-ventilated storage for firefighter gear and PPE (personal protective equipment.) Providing air conditioning for this room will extend the life of the firefighters gear. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
