Renovation of a water / sewer project in Wilmington, North Carolina. Design plans call for the renovation of a water / sewer project.
Southside WWTP was originally constructed in 1972, upgraded in 1985 and has had repeated investment to incrementally extend its life over the last 5 years. This project substantially constructs a new plant with increased capacity on an existing and expanded footprint by using design build contract methods to keep the existing plant functioning. The replacement will have a capacity increase to 16 or 20 MGD and will add sustainability features such as digester gas utilization and designing a footprint for future potable water reuse facilities. As of April 29, 2025, this project is included in the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority's Fiscal Year 2025-2034 Capital Improvement Plan. This is a design-build project with design currently under way. Construction is expected to begin in the fall.
