NCC Kopp Center Renovation OR RFP Pre-Qualification: Yes Normandale Community College's existing Kopp Student Center was originally built in 1975 with a complete remodel and addition in 2010-11. The 58,860 square foot- Kopp Student Center, houses the campus store, bookstore, campus card, campus information, dining, student clubs and organizations. Significant challenges within the building are (in no particular order): The food service operation is too large for projected on campus enrollment There is a need for enhance meeting space for student and external events Textbook service model has changed and the current space no longer reflects current processes. In addition, related supporting offices are inadequate The Campus Store has multiple entries that create concern Campus Card space is inadequate and functions poorly Diversity Center is undersized Lighting and Mechanical Systems need replacing or enhancing Normandale Community College wants the Kopp Student Center to reflect the changing business models in relation to the Food Service and the bookstore while enhancing the meeting and student space. Notably, the design drivers for the project include the principles of Hospitality (welcoming) Clarity Efficiency Inclusion Flexibility Project-specific concerns and challenges include: Estimating the number of food service locations that will be needed on a long -term basis has been challenging. We are anticipating the possibility of a Two-Phase project that will entail a portion of the food service remodel taking place in Phase II. The Textbook area needs considerable updating, but only a small window exists to complete this work without creating a significant negative impact on the ability to serve students.
