As of August this was approved by Council for a $1 million contribution to the Arizona Department of Transportation for the construction of the 1,950-foot Shelby Drive Shared-Use Path Project Additionally, the west entrance to Sunset Park off of Shelby Drive, currently pedestrian access-only, will have one Americans with Disabilities Act compliant and at least three regular parking spaces added along with a bench and other improvements for park visitors. The project was originally planned to extend to State Route 89A and follow Whippet Way around Club Wyndham Sedona, but securing a road easement from the resort has been challenging despite the company’s support for the SUP, according to Assistant Public Works Director Sandy Phillips. As a result the project was shortened to meet ADOT’s deadline for the city to submit its application for work that will be administered and managed by the state of Arizona. The city anticipates beginning construction in the winter, to take approximately six months, with completion by the summer. Complete street closures are not anticipated, short duration one-lane traffic control operations will occur. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- A detailed Scope has not yet been determined This project is included in the City of Sedona's 2025-2034 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of March 10, 2025, this project is in the design phase. A engineer has been selected for the project. Project timeline is dependent on federal grant funding. Tentative date for bidding is estimated to take place in summer/fall of 2025 and tentative date for construction is estimated for winter of 2025/early 2026.
