All pathways and rough-in provided by Bridge Electric, with pull strings Coordination with Bridge and other related trades that impact scop The Capilano University Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Centre is a proposed 2-storey childcare and education facility. The Centre will provide childcare capcity for 74 children through one class of infants, one class of toddlers and 2 classes of 3-5 year olds. The Centre will also provide education facilities for 120 students with offices and support facilities for 16 ECCE faculty. The proposed site for the project is located in the north quadrant of Capilano University, replacing the existing facilities building. The proposed site is neighboured by the campus bus loop to the south and a mature forest to the north, with a major pedestrian route to the west and vehicular route to the east. The site is an ideal location for the proposed childcare facility. The mature forest provides an excellent opportunity for outdoor play which fits in with the naturebased pedagogy of the ECCE. Furthermore, the location adjacent to pedestrian routes and parking facilities provide access to visitors utilizing the new childcare facility, the majority of which work and study on campus. The building layout maximizes exposure to the natural setting, with all 4 childcare classes opening onto the natural forest on the ground floor, and classrooms overlooking the trees on the second storey. The main entrance to the building is off the pedestrian route to the west, adding to the walkable network through the centre of campus. The heavy timber structure and use of wood throughout the project speak to the natural surroundings of the site and campus broadly. The building form and construction techniques draw connections to the history of building in the Pacific Northwest.
