Supply, install and monitor Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) as per attached specifications that are an integral part of this bid. GAC shall be sufficient material to occupy 1,684 cu ft backwashed and drained. Virgin GAC shall be Filtrasorb 300M or approved equal Question Deadline 11/27/2023 Questions must be received by the City at least four (4) working days prior to the scheduled opening. No oral interpretations or instructions given by any city employee or any other person shall apply. Changes relative to any solicitation will be in writing, in the form of an addendum Supply and monitor Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) as a portion of the filtration media in two (2) 361 sq. ft. dual filters at the Watauga Water Treatment Plant. The GAC will be installed to a depth of 28 inches. The total volume of GAC will be 1684 cu ft. total or 842 cu ft. per filter. Installation and removal Vendor shall furnish all labor, materials, equipment and supervision to: 1. Supply and install new GAC. 2. Remove and dispose of spent GAC. Monitoring Vendor shall perform the following analysis on a granular activated carbon sample supplied by the City every six (6) months until bed exhaustion: o Iodine number o Apparent density o % ash o Particle size o Rate of exhaustion Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) Vendor shall supply and deliver, by bulk truck, sufficient GAC to occupy 1684 cu ft. after it has been placed, backwashed and drained. The GAC shall be virgin bituminous coal and shall meet the applicable portions of AWWA Standard B604-96 or latest revision. The GAC shall be manufactured from select grades of bituminous coal by a domestic (United States) manufacturing facility. The product supplied shall meet the following additional specifications: Iodine 900min. Volume Iodine (mg/cc) 475 Density (after backwashing & draining) 28-31 lb./cubic ft. min. Apparent density .52 min Ash content 8% max. Uniform coefficient 2.1 max. Abrasion number 75 min. Sieve size 8 x 30 Effective size 0.8-1.0 mm Insurance Requirements The attached Insurance Checklist (which includes a section for the Insurance agent to fill out) and General Contract Form must be completed and returned with the bid package. Successful vendor shall provide certificate of insurance, as specified, prior to contract award. Successful vendor shall maintain insurance coverage until bed exhaustion.
