Reference Number 0000260204 Question Acceptance Deadline 2023/12/05 02:00:00 PM MST The new 6SU will extend from 9 Avenue SE to 11 Avenue SE. 6 Street SE will consist of two (2) lanes in each direction between 9 Avenue SE and 12 Avenue SE. 9 Avenue SE is proposed to be realigned between 5 Street SE and the main entrance into Fort Calgary. The scope of the Project also includes traffic signals and roadway illumination. Sidewalks and pathways are proposed to support existing conditions with a shared use (walk and cycle) adjacent to either side of the road. With other significant city building projects underway in Victoria Park such Green Line LRT and the new Event Centre, the 6SU Project will take a fast-track delivery approach. Soil retention will be required to accommodate the underpass below the existing CPKC line. It is proposed to use a cast in place augured secant pile wall system similar to what was used at 4 Street SE under the CPKC tracks. Retaining wall structures are proposed on either side of 6 Street between 9 Avenue and 11 Avenue SE for an approximate length of 270 m, with the inner excavations extending down to approximately 8.3 m (El. 1036.3 m). Additional cast in place retaining walls are proposed for the sidewalk to raise it above the road elevation in the underpass. There is also a wall needed at the intersection of 9 Avenue SE and 6 Street SE, which will be furthered in detailed design, but could be built using cast in place, piled, or possibly even a precast method. Proposed retaining wall plans and profiles can be found in Appendix E. The proposed width of the underpass is approximately 28.7 m including a median, four traffic lanes, and pedestrian walk on either side. Cast-in-place concrete piles are proposed for construction of the proposed secant pile walls and foundation support for the underpass. The preliminary bridge concept is cast in place shallow profile girder 2-span bridge, similar to 4 Street SE. CPKC operates four tracks within their ROW along with a fifth siding track terminating just to the west. A temporary shoofly track to sustain rail traffic and support CPKC operations during the construction of the underpass and new permanent tracks is required. CPKC forces will design, construct and commission both the temporary shoofly and the final track arrangement. It has been confirmed the temporary shoofly will be constructed to the south of the existing rail line. The concept plan for the shoofly can be found in Appendix E. The proposed underpass requires a stormwater lift station to transfer surface water collected from the underpass roads to the stormwater sewers. Based on the concept design, the lift station is proposed to the east of 6 Street and to the south of the CPKC line. This location will be further reviewed with the design team once engaged. A desktop Geotechnical Review was completed in December 2022 (See Appendix F). Based on the available geotechnical desktop information the subsurface conditions at the Project site are anticipated to consist of topsoil overlying uncontrolled fill, sandy gravel, and sedimentary bedrock. Commercial General Liability having an inclusive limit, including personal injury and property damage, of not less than Two Million Dollars ($2,000,000) per occurrence and such insurance to be maintained and kept in full force and effect for twenty-four (24) months following the completion of the Services.
