North Caribou Lake First Nation (NCLFN) is proceeding with a water system upgrade including a new water treatment plant and expansion to the piped water distribution system. NCLFN is located approximately 320 km north of Sioux Lookout, on the north shore of Weagamow Lake. The community is accessible year-round by road and air. The general scope of work consists of: Construction of a new water treatment plant with underground concrete reservoir and steel pile foundation. The building will be a pre-engineered steel building with a building footprint of approximately 26 m x 33 m. Decommissioning of an existing water treatment plant and a containerized water treatment system. Demolition of the existing water treatment plant building and below ground reservoirs, with the exception of the existing raw water barrel located in the water treatment plant. Installation of a two train pre-selected conventional coagulation/flocculation/clarification/filtration treatment system with a capacity of 1276 m3 per day. Installation of a pre-purchased genset and motor control centre. Supply and installation of new raw water pumping systems, distribution pumping systems, chemical feed systems, process piping, and UV disinfection system. Supply and installation of lighting, heating, and ventilation systems. Staging of upgrades to the raw water pumping system will be required due to the re-use of the existing raw water barrel for the new treatment system. Construction of a freestanding truckfill structure at the existing truck garage. Repair or replacement of 10 existing fire hydrants. Underground piping works including the following approximate quantities: 2,800 m of water service piping to service 49 new lots and 54 existing buildings Connection of water service piping to 54 existing houses 1,600 m of 150 mm mainline watermain piping 1,100 of 200 mm mainline watermain piping 250 m of 300 mm mainline watermain piping 200 m of 350 mm mainline watermain piping 250 m of gravity sewer piping to connect the new water treatment plant to the existing sewer system 1,000 m of gravity sewer piping in new residential development areas 450 m of 150 mm forcemain piping 12,000 m3 of bedrock trench blasting 29,700 m3 of peat removal Lot grading for 37 new residential lots Replacement of pumps and control panels at two existing lift stations The MCC and generator equipment has been pre-ordered under a separate supply contract. The General Contractor is to sign a Novation Agreement and coordinate installation and commissioning works with the MCC and Generator Supplier. The water treatment system and SCADA system has been pre-arranged with Napier-Reid Ltd.
