Renovation of a municipal facility in Ottawa, Illinois. Completed plans call for the renovation of a municipal facility.
The scope of work provides for removing the existing ramp at the main entrance and replacing it with a new ramp; reconstructing, and restoring components of the monumental stairs at the main entrance; remodeling the existing second floor restrooms and replacing them with new; removing windows, frames, sub-frames and sills, and replacing with new windows and supporting components and security glass; Removing existing paint on the building exterior and repainting; removal and replacement of three existing exterior doors, frames, transoms and sidelites with new ballistic resistant assemblies. The Ottawa 3rd District Appellate Court Building is a 15,178 square foot, 2-story building designed in a Greek Classic Revival style. The central portion of the structure was constructed from 1857-1860 and the North and South wings were added in 1877. The monumental staircase on the West side of the building was once used to lead visitors from grade level to the second floor. Two pairs of Doric columns stand prominently at the top of staircase and support the detailed pediment above. The building's exterior walls are composed of red brick and limestone. There are two concrete ramps that lead from grade to the first floor - one on the South-West corner and the other on the South-East corner.
