Project Description: This project is a critical component of VMI's Strategic Plan Vision 2039 and the VMI Post Master Plan, prepared and presented by the VMI Superintendent and unanimously adopted by the VMI Board of Visitors. This project is scoped to demolish Neikirk Hall, Cabell House, and Moody Hall replacing them with a new structure sized and purpose built to accommodate functions and activities for Cadets, academic departments and alumni. Example functions include academic round table discussions with Cadets; Cadet meetings or dinners with alumni, faculty or staff; alumni events and functions; academic meetings with distinguished visitors to the Post (e.g., Distinguished Speaker Series) among many other events. The new facility will house the VMI Alumni Agencies. Spaces within the facility will include office space, meeting rooms for educational and administrative meetings, conference and event support spaces. Neikirk Hall is a 14,133 square foot facility originally constructed in 1872, with a rear addition constructed to the north in 1999. It will be demolished at part of the project. Currently it is home to a portion of the Alumni Agencies with the remainder of the organization located in the lower level of Moody Hall. This facility is undersized to meet staff needs and space layout is inefficient for conducting normal office operations. A FICAS study for this facility conducted in 2010 identified that most of the building systems had exceeded their useful life. Located between Neikirk Hall and Moody Hall, the Cabell House is a residence constructed in 1867. Acquired in 1974 it serves as a single-family residence. It will be demolished as part of this project.
