Saving Project...

Renovation of an educational facility in Amherst, New York. Design plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.

As of June 10 2024 this was awarded to March 15, 2024, a shortlist of prospective firms has been released. A firm timeline for construction has not been established. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: This project is for the design of a comprehensive renovation to Lockwood Library including architectural, MEP and fire protection. Also included is the construction of a new atrium enclosure over its deteriorating central courtyard and infills at northeast and southwest areas of the building to provide improved entrances and connections to the site and adjacent buildings. This building was constructed in 1977 and is in generally poor condition. It has a steel frame structure with five stories above grade plus full basement. Lockwood Library houses the North Campus's main library, plus classrooms, offices, and support spaces. The purpose of this project is for continuing use of the building as an updated multipurpose main library. Total size of the existing building is approximately 257,000 gross square feet (GSF) including basement and mechanical penthouse. Minor additions and infills are expected to total less than 18,000 GSF. Lockwood has had minimal renovation beyond exterior upgrades in the early 2000s. Mechanical systems need to be updated to provide space conditioning and effective ventilation for the whole building, including special collections, with reduced carbon emissions in compliance with the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act. The project will include a geothermal heat pump system. This project will also renovate all interior spaces, replace the roof, enclose the central courtyard with a long-span partly glazed atrium roof (approximately 110 x 165 feet), and add a full-building fire sprinkler system. The new atrium space created from the courtyard will contain an elevator and an open stairway, and will house circulation, study, social and student amenity spaces. Hazardous materials abatement includes extensive areas of lead coated copper cladding in walls and sloped roofs in the existing courtyard. Any questions regarding this procurement should be emailed to: SUCF.ConsultantProcurement@suny.edu. Minority Owned Sub-Contracting Goal: 15% Women Owned Sub-Contracting Goal: 15% Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Business Contracting Goal: 6% The method of Contractor Selection has not been Determined at this time.
