The City of Columbia, hereinafter referred to as the "City," realizes the importance of parks and recreation as a catalyst for health and quality of life for its citizens. Parks are more than amenities
that provide public places to play, they are key factors that spur economic development, increase the quality of life for its citizens, form the core of many neighborhoods and bring these
neighborhoods and communities together.
The City is responsible for providing recreational and leisure services for the citizens and visitors to the City of Columbia. With an annual budget of approximately $13.4 million, the staff program
and maintain:
o Over 60 city parks and green spaces
o Over 600 acres of city-maintained park land
o 55 tennis courts
o 16 city pools, spray pads and ponds
o 9 city-maintained fountains The Colony North Pointe Gym/Community Center is undergoing a major transformation to include a community center with gym and new park space. A schematic masterplan of the site layout has
