Estimated Cost $110,000 The City of Lowell is seeking written bids to provide repairs to the outside granite stairs at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium Every request for such interpretation should be in writing addressed to Chief Procurement Officer, City Hall, 375 Merrimack Street, Room 60, Lowell, MA 01852 Question Deadline 01/06/2024 The City is looking for highly qualified construction companies, contractors repair the
outside granite stairs at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium around all of its vertical
perimeter, including work at the entrance stairs and raised plazas Building
entrances/egresses are accessed via grand granite staircases leading to cast in place
concrete plazas on three sides. Steps have settled and been displaced. Concrete plazas have
cracked and spawled as well as allowed for water infiltration into the surrounding parapet
walls. Steel pipe rails have shifted in locations or are missing returns. The goals of the
project are:
1. To reset the granite steps on improved subgrade and mortar joints
2. Replace concrete landing plazas with new cast in place concrete pitched away from the
building and allowing for accessible level landings at doors
3. Should resources be available, remove and replace existing steel pipe rails at stairs with
new painted steel pipe rails to code
The work includes all labor, materials, machinery, tools, equipment, and other means of
construction necessary and incidental to the completion of the work described herein and
using the attached drawings and pictures as references for construction types, areas, and
locations, including but not necessarily limited to the following:
Base Bid:
Resetting of several granite steps at each of three areas at the south, west, and north sides
of the building exterior. Granite steps shall be pulled from their base, adding new and
leveling existing base material and resetting the granite using Portland Cement mortar for
leveling and at all joints. Remove all existing concrete landings and pour new stair
landings with 4000 PSI concrete.
