On December 17, 2018, the City Council accepted the City's Systemic Safety Analysis Report (SSAR). The SSAR provides cost-effective countermeasures to improve roadway safety within the City. The SSAR revealed seven systemic roadway safety issues Including school area safety, collisions at unslfinallzed crossings, left-turn collisions at signalized intersections, unsafe vehicle speed, driving or bicycling under the influence of alcohol or drugs, collisions Involving motor vehicles and fixed objects, and collisions between motor vehicles and cyclists. City staff is implementing some of the short-term projects identified in the SSAR, which Includes Infrastructure Improvements (e.g. abject markers and signs). Over the next few years, City staff is planning to continue with the medium-term projects, including: Implementing Class II bike lanes, reconstructing intersections, implementing enhanced crosswalks, and others as identified In the SSAR. Project funding will also allow staff to respond to new safety Issues that arise in Sonoma. In FY 23/34 City staff will move forward the design for the crossing at Studley and Fifth St West. This project is included in the City of Sonoma's FY 2023-2028 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Per the owner, as of August 1, 2024, an RFP for design will be issued shortly. Owner states that design will start soon and construction is anticipated to begin in the fall of 2025. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
