Anschutz Medical Center (AMC) and the University of Colorado Denver (UCD) campuses require disinfection, decontamination (treatment) and final disposal services for various waste streams which are generated by the research enterprise. All regulated medical wastes (i.e., infectious wastes; human and animal pathological wastes; chemotherapeutic wastes <3% by volume; biohazardous wastes) must be treated in an EPA and/or Colorado state permitted facility for decontamination and destruction, to prevent the release of recombinant DNA, human, animal, and agricultural pathogens into the environment. Non-regulated, non-infectious animal carcasses can be disposed of through a pet crematorium or similar method.
