The City Of Lafayette, With Funding From The Federal Highway Administration (Fhwa), Intends To Proceed With A Roadway Widening Project Between Veterans Memorial Parkway And Brick 'n Wood Drive With Trail Construction Extending North To Twyckenham Boulevard (Approximately 1.02 Miles), In The City Of Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, Indiana, Des. 1900482, Specifically, In Sections 4, 5, 8 And 9, Township 22 North, Range 4 West, On The United States Geological Survey (Usgs) Lafayette West, Indiana Quadrangle. The Secondary Need For This Project Stems From A Lack Of Pedestrian Connectivity Throughout The Project Area. The Tertiary Need For This Project Is Due To The Existing Cross Section Of South 9th Street, Between Brick 'n Wood Drive And Veterans Memorial Parkway, Not Matching The Functional Classification Of South 9th Street North And South Of The Project Area. The Primary Purpose Of The Project Is To Improve The Los Of South 9th Street, Including The Intersection With Ortman Lane, To An Acceptable Los (C) For Future Anticipated Traffic Demands, And Reduce The Severity Of Vehicle Collisions Along South 9th Street During Peak Travel Times At The Intersection Of Ortman Lane. The Primary Need For This Project Is Due To Current Congestion, Future Anticipated Level Of Service (Los), And The Number Of Collisions At The Intersection Of South 9th Street And Ortman Lane. The Cost Associated With This Project Is Approximately $11.7 Million, Which Includes Preliminary Engineering, Row, And Construction, And Will Utilize Both Federal And Local Funds. Two Independent, Locally Funded Projects Will Be Constructed Concurrently With Des. 1900482. A Sanitary Sewer Will Be Installed Along Ortman Lane And South 9th Street By The City Of Lafayette, Replacing An Existing Shallow Force Main. This Will Require Closure Of The Ortman Lane Intersection For Trenchless Installation. Also, Tippecanoe County Bridge No. 56 Over Elliott Ditch Is Scheduled To Be Removed And Replaced.
