Basic design will be dry barrel type that prevents the operating threads from coming in contact with the service water. It will be of the compression type, opening against the pressure and closing with the pressure. Hydrants shall be able to withstand a working pressure of 200 psi. Hydrant bonnet assembly shall be provided with a grease reservoir and lubrication system that automatically circulates grease to all operating stem threads and bearing surfaces each time the hydrant is operated. The system shall be completely sealed from the waterway and from external contaminants. The top of the hydrant shall be sealed with o-rings. Packing seals are not acceptable. The operating rod shall be a two-piece rod made of high tensile steel 1.25" square. Upper section of rod shall have a bronze sleeve where it passes through the o-rings in the top of the hydrant. Lower section of rod shall have a plated and coated steel spring to insure positive drain closure. Rod pieces shall be held together by a cast iron coupling using stainless steel pins. The threads on the lower section of the rod shall be sealed from contact with the water by the bottom half of the hydrant valve. There shall be a travel stop nut located in the top of the hydrant to prevent the operating rod from being put into compression. Round operating rods are not acceptable. Traffic repair kits and maintenance kits shall be delivered after award of contract. The City of Beverly reserves the right to reject any or all bids, accept any bid, or divide the award as deemed in the best interest of the City of Beverly, or to waive any informality in bids. If required, the Contractor shall provide the Owner with a performance bond and a labor and materials or payment bond executed by a surety company licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Contract length - The contract shall be for one (1) year from the date of the award. This contract may be extended under the same terms and conditions for a maximum of two (2) additional one (1) year terms at the sole discretion of the City and upon approval of the appropriation.
