Site work and paving for a civil project in Garland, Texas. Conceptual plans call for site work for a road / highway; for paving for a road / highway; and water / sewer project.
ECS Southwest, LLP (ECS) has completed the subsurface exploration, laboratory testing, and geotechnical engineering analyses for the above-referenced project. Our services were performed in general accordance with our agreed to scope of work. This report presents our understanding of the geotechnical aspects of the project along with the results of the field exploration and laboratory testing conducted, and our design and construction recommendations. It has been our pleasure to be of service to SPI during the design phase of this project. We would appreciate the opportunity to remain involved during the continuation of the design phase, and we would like to provide our services during construction phase operations as well to verify subsurface conditions assumed for this report. Should you have any questions concerning the information contained in this report, or if we can be of further assistance to you, please contact us. The following summarizes the main findings of the exploration, particularly those that may have a cost impact on the planned roadway development. Further, our pavement and subgrade improvement recommendations are summarized. Information gleaned from the executive summary should not be utilized in lieu of reading the entire geotechnical report. The borings encountered fill, fat clay, lean clay, sand, weathered limestone and limestone to boring termination depths of 15 to 30 feet below the existing grades along the proposed roadways within the project site. Groundwater seepage was not observed in the borings during the field exploration work. Design values for the proposed pavement, subgrade preparation and stabilization, as well as materials specifications are provided in the report. The clay soils encountered at this site have high movement potential of about 2 to 5 inches under dry soil condition and less than 4.5 inches under in-situ soil condition. These potential movements reflect moisture changes in the soil that can occur over the life of the structure and after construction is complete. Geotechnical related design values for the proposed sewer lines, construction consideration, as well as materials specifications are provided in the report. The proposed project consists of the pavement reconstruction and wastewater line replacement for the Northwood alley and Lakewood alley in Garland, Texas. The total linear foot of the roadway improvement is estimated to be about 3,685 feet, including about 1,120 LF for Northwood alley and about 2,565 LF for Lakewood alley. The Northwood alley is located on the northwest side of the intersection of N. Glenbrook Drive and Melrose Street. The Lakewood alley is located on the northwest side of the intersection of W. Walnut Street and N. Garland Road. The project location is depicted in the attached Site Location Diagram in Appendix A and below.
