Reference Number NB-EFN2024-01 Esgenoôpetitj First Nation is a Mi'kmaq community in New Brunswick, approximately 7 kilometers southwest from the village of Neguac and approximately 38 kilometers northeast of Miramichi, it's nearest service center. Based on population statistics from 2016, the on-reserve population is 1,190. The proximity to the Miramichi Bay and the Golf of St. Lawrence has always influenced the way of life, but recent changes to our local climate have threatened the community's housing portofolio, particularly due to the repeated occurrences of Hurricanes, tropical storms, heavy snowfalls, and rainfalls. The community is in need of a stormwater assessment and stormwater management plan as they have been facing water ingress issues in their homes for over 10 years. Some roads in the community have ditches however the majority of the community has little to no ditching with intermittent presence of driveway culverts and road cross-culverts.
