As Chatham County grows, it is necessary for a new Sheriff's Office administration building to be constructed to better meet the needs of a growing community. With the arrival of both Vinfast and WolfSpeed to Chatham County, local development will begin to skyrocket. The current administration building is dated and can not currently be used as an effective space for both citizens of Chatham County and employees of the Sheriff's Office. By constructing a new Sheriff's Office administration building, office space could be increased to match the need for new staff as well as the establishment of multi-use spaces for both internal and external meetings. A new Sheriff's Office administration building would not only have a positive impact on internal operations, but it would also provide a necessary upgrade that is needed for a growing and changing community. As of January 28, 2026, this project is included in Chatham County’s FY 2026–2032 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). A design firm has not yet been selected. The adopted CIP programs design and pre-construction funding in FY 2026 and major construction allocations in FY 2027–2029; based on this schedule, construction is not expected to begin before March 1, 2028. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
