** May 30, 2025 owner has decided design builder.** Chatham County is requesting services from a firm with experience in Design-Build and similar type facilities to form a team to work with necessary County departments, officials, and staff to meet the agreed upon needs of the County. The Chatham County Sheriff's Office will be the lead agency for the County for this project. The new design is expected to mimic the existing facility such that day-to-day operations will not differ substantially in the new space. It is understood that construction techniques and technology have advanced since the completion of the original facility in 2015 and if there are components in the existing facility that may need to be upgraded to accomplish a cohesive function, those items are expected to be identified in the design process. Additionally, this space is to be designed to meet all State requirements to allow the Sheriff's Office to continue to strive for and meet the State accreditation they intend to seek and receive. Upon completion of the design process, the construction firm will be expected to complete the construction phase in a timely manner with minimal interruption to what will be a continually operating, secure facility housing many inmates.
