Site work and paving for a bridge / tunnel in Dry Fork, Virginia. Completed plans call for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and for paving for a bridge / tunnel.
Design and fabrication of prestressed concrete voided/solid slab superstructure and fabrication of BTB-1 railing components delivered to Route 635 (Armstrong Road) in Pittsylvania County. The superstructure shall be designed for HL-93 loading in accordance with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, 8th Edition, 2017; and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Modifications. All design calculations (including all applicable code checks) shall be according to Load and Resistance Factor Design. Design calculations performed in Allowable Stress Design will not be acceptable. The VDOT Structure and Bridge Division, Instructional and Informational Memorandum, IIM-S&B-80.8, "VDOT Modifications to the AASHTO" specifies a 17 psf design loading allowance for construction tolerances when using Virginia Adjacent Member Connection (VAMC) details, and a 15 psf design loading for future wearing surface loading. The prestressed slab design shall follow the Manual of the Structure & Bridge Division, Part 5, Prestressed Concrete Adjacent Members Standards using VAMC details, see File Numbers PSV-1, PSV-2A and PSV-6A as well as File Numbers PSV-3 and PSV-4 for solid exterior and voided interior prestressed slabs, respectively. The bridge structure shall also be designed with a 3" average asphalt-concrete overlay and the side mounted BTB-1 railing system. VDOT Design Guidelines are available from the VDOT website.
