Iowa Memorial Union - Restore Richey Ballroom and Room 374 General Description of Work: 1) The project consists of an interior renovation project to restore the Richey Ballroom on the 3rd floor and adjacent support 374 spaces (5,000 GSF). After the 2008 floods, the ballroom was converted into a museum gallery space for the UI Art Building to temporarily display parts of their collection while their new building was constructed, and is currently partitioned into multiple areas, including museum gallery spaces, offices, and storage. Following the completion of the UI Stanley Museum of Art building, the museum gallery space in the IMU was no longer needed. The space will be renovated back into a ballroom and event space for UI staff, students, and the public. The project scope will renovate all interior finishes, restore the original barrel vault ceiling and fireplace architecture, and establish new entrances into the ballroom for better wayfinding and accessibility. The west corridor entrance to the ballroom will be reconfigured to provide larger entrance doors and a new vestibule / pre-function area will be created south of the ballroom for more direct access to the rest of the building. The new vestibule will require expanding the existing window openings from the original 1927 exterior wall, which is now interior to the building. A new prep/storage room will also be created to support the ballroom. In addition, the MEPT systems serving the ballroom will be updated and rerouted to above the vaulted ceiling. The exterior windows will remain, but new shading and mechanical convectors will be updated.
