A STIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the STIP often evolves based on funding availability. One project leaders said they'd like to see a quicker timeline for is the widening of N.C. Highway 42, which stretches across the northern part of the county and through Clayton. Construction is slated to begin on the $156.9 million project, which will make a portion of the highway a four-lane road divided by a median, in 2029. In general, there needs to be more collaboration in order to quicken the pace of development, according to Ed Aldridge, chairman of the Johnston County Economic Development Advisory Board and vice president of business development for RiverWild. "In today's market, time is money," Aldridge said. "So there's got to be more collaboration between developers, industries and all that with the towns and counties. When you're talking about a development that not long ago would take you 24 months to carry through the process, versus if it is now taking the 48 to 60 months to carry through the process, all of those costs associated with that end up getting rolled into the final product." "We just have to figure out how to move these things down the pipeline a little bit quicker," he said. "Covid threw everyone through a loop. We're kind of on the backside of that. So I think we need to stop making excuses and say, where are the answers ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
