The Town of Wallingford Department of Public Works is seeking competitive quotes to prepare and apply exterior joint sealant to the front steps and landings at the Wallingford Town Hall at 45 South Main Street in Wallingford, Connecticut. Respondents shall have the appropriate experience, manpower and equipment to satisfactorily complete the following scope of work: Powerwash the entire surface of the stairs including steps, risers and landings between the concrete walkway (bottom) and three sets of entry doors (top); Remove all old joint mortar/ caulking on vertical and horizontal surfaces by manual or non-destructive mechanical means. Clean all debris with compressed air or by vacuuming; Install closed-cell foam backer rod to fill any large gaps in the joints. Backer rod shall be placed so that sealant depth is at least 1/4"; Tape off the masonry on both sides of the joint to achieve neat finished lines; Apply caulk sealant (SikaFlex 1a polyurethane, or approved equal) in accordance with manufacturer requirements, including weather conditions, and in accordance with ASTM C920-11 - Standard Specifications for Elastomeric Joint Sealants; For joint widths from 1/4 to 1/2 in. the joint depth should be no more than the width of the joint; Tool finish the sealant. After the sealant is tooled, the minimum thickness of the sealant at the midpoint of the joint opening should not be less the 1/8 in. and the sealant adhesion dimension no less than 1/4 in. The required thicknesses should also meet manufacturer requirements; Place joint sealant with a common caulk gun, with a tip the same size as the width of the joint. The caulk gun should be held at an angle of about 45 degree to the face, and moved slowly and consistently. Filling joints from bottom to top helps avoid trapping air as the sealant is placed; Provide product data sheets to DPW for approval for foam backing rod and joint sealant (color to best match conditions); Stage work as to not interfere with public access to the building during "open" hours; Protect work area and public with caution tape, cones, signs or other safety devices as required. Respondents must inspect the existing field conditions to understand the full scope of the work BEFORE submitting their price quote.
