Site work and paving for a civil project in Northbrook, Illinois. Design plans call for site work for a road / highway; for paving for a road / highway; and water / sewer project.
As of November 19, 2025, this project is in preliminary engineering design. Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2028. The water main on Walters Road is programmed for replacement to coincide with bicycle accommodations and resurfacing work. The water main on Walters Road is 6-to-8 inch cast iron main that was installed in 1916. The water main is expected to be replaced with 12 inch main as part of this project. In 2022, the Village of Northbrook was awarded $927,022 in Surface Transportation Program (STP) grant funding for the resurfacing of Walters Avenue from Pfingsten Road to Shermer Road through the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning. This funding is programmed for construction to occur in 2027. Additionally, the water main on Walters Avenue was built in 1916 and will be replaced in conjunction to the paving project in an effort to maintain uninterrupted water service to residents and minimize impacts to residents. The Village of Northbrook wishes to improve bicycle accommodations in the Shermer Road corridor between Walters Avenue and Willow Road (MBPP project L23). This project will also include review of intersection improvements at the intersections of Walters Avenue and Pfingsten Road (P26), Walters Avenue and Western Avenue (P27), Walters Avenue and Cedar Road (P28), and Walters Avenue and Shermer Road (P29).
