Site work for a transportation facility in Greensboro, North Carolina. Working plans call for site work for a transportation facility.

https://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/news/2024/09/23/air-canada-rdu-airport-flights-montreal.html International air travel continues to grow at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. That includes destinations in Canada, where Air Canada confirms plans to double the frequency of its nonstop flights to Montreal starting next May from once daily to twice daily. Air Canada was the first international airline to provide nonstop service, starting in 1996 with Toronto. Air Canada added its nonstop to Montreal in 2019. International travel increased 88 percent across the board between June of 2022 and June of this year, RDU CEO Mike Landguth said Thursday during a meeting of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority board. The numbers have been boosted by new routes, including the recent additions of Mexico City (Aeromexico), Frankfurt, Germany (Lufthansa) and Panama City, Panama Panama (Copa Airlines). For the year through August, nearly 189,000 passengers boarded internationally-bound planes at RDU, a 22 percent increase over last year. RDU's traffic volume continues to grow. Just under 683,000 passengers boarded planes at the airport in August, a 6 percent uptick from the same month in 2023. Overall for the year through August, nearly 5.1 million passengers boarded planes at RDU, a 7.5 percent increase over last year during the same period. The airport continues to invest in projects to support growth, such as a $3.6 million amendment to its existing agreement with engineering firm Kimley Horn for projects tied to the extension of John Brantley Boulevard. The airport recently secured another $10 million for its new international runway. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ https://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/news/2024/09/10/rdu-new-international-runway-faa-grant.html Raleigh-Durham International Airport is $10 million closer to paying for its new international runway, thanks to a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration. RDU was awarded the competitive grant through the agency's Airport Improvement Program. According to the FAA, the grant has been earmarked for the new runway, which RDU officials have described as a seven year, $534 million project. Officials have made no secret of the fact that millions more are needed to fund capital projects at RDU -- from terminal expansions to airfield improvement -- as the airport keeps up its record pace of growth. In January, RDU disclosed that it expects to spend $3 billion over the next decade but faces a shortfall of $384 million. It's one reason why RDU has been aggressive in pursuing public funding opportunities, contracting with lobbyist Thorn Run specifically to go after federal dollars this year. Mike Landguth, CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority, has said that no project is more important than the new runway. RDU lobbied regulators for years as it planned the project behind the scenes. As it awaited approval, it started replacing concrete slabs as temporary measures to keep the runway operational, a multimillion-dollar project. RDU received its record of decision -- the official federal go-head -- for the air strip last year. When completed, the new runway will be 10,639 feet, a length that is a non-negotiable for service to the West Coast and Europe, airport officials have said, as it will allow for larger aircraft to serve RDU. And the planned expansion of Terminal 2 can't happen before the runway is completed. The existing primary runway is 10,000 feet and was built in the 1980s. "The runway is being replaced to maintain international connectivity and make room for future gate expansion at Terminal 2," Landguth said in a statement Monday. "The Authority is grateful for federal grant funding that will help pay for this significant capital project." RDU was one of multiple entities in North Carolina and across the nation approved for grants this month to fund airport projects. Other North Carolina airports included on the latest grant list: Charlotte Douglas International: $13.4 million Piedmont Triad International: $4.9 million. Asheville Regional: $1.5 million __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Piedmont Triad International Airport (Gso), Runway 5r-23l Extension Program County : Guilford Division 7 Let Type - NON - DOT LET (LAP) As of March 27, 2026 , the project is in Final Planning status.
