Site work and paving for a sidewalk / parking lot in Yuma Proving Ground, Arizona. Conceptual plans call for site work for a sidewalk / parking lot; and for paving for a sidewalk / parking lot.
The Department of Public Works is requesting funding to improve the capacity of parking space utilized by staff and the Emergency Operation Center (EOC). We have been experiencing significant parking shortages when training or special events are held by EOC. During the 2022 calendar year, there were a total of 166 events or meetings held in the EOC, with that number expected to increase in 2023. Expanding the parking lot will enable us to provide adequate parking space when training and special events are held at our facility. In addition, the Emergency Management Department will be building its offices on-site within the next couple of years, thus needing additional parking space to accommodate additional staff and visitors to the facility. Additional parking space will make the Yuma County Department of Public Works building stand out to make a lasting impression on the community that visits our location. Individuals who visit our location include county citizens, vendors, and attendees of trainings and events that are held by the EOC. It is important that the Department continues to maintain and provide a safe parking area for our staff and visitors. Having the additional parking space will ease the transition of the Emergency Management building at our location while accommodating additional staff, trainings, and visitors. An additional benefit will be the additional parking that brings safety within our parking structure, creating an additional exit towards 44th Street that will alleviate the traffic from events and deliveries from large commercial vehicles. Another benefit is to provide a safer environment with additional parking to reduce exposing staff, vendors, and visitors to oncoming traffic. Additionally, this project includes the installation of two new shade structures for the parking lots, one measuring 240' x 18' and the second measuring 100' x 36' to cover the proposed 28 new parking spots (estimated at $213,000). Fiscal Years 2024 -2028 *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available.
