Renovation of an educational facility in San Diego, California. Working plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.
The owner has determined a prequalified list of construction managers. Description of Work: This proposed project, Guseman and Hrycyna Labs at Urey Hall, would renovate approximately 4,500 GSF on the second floor of Urey Hall, to create three research and instructional labs for the Biochemistry department. The estimated construction cost is $2,500,000 at CCCI 10166. The project will be subject to the campus/university academic and administrative approval process. Rooms 2225A, 2225, 2229, 2233, and 2237 will be converted into a biochemistry lab for Dr. Guseman. Room 2205 will be converted into a standard Biochemistry lab for shared utilization by the department and is ultimately intended to support a future recruit. The scope described above would also include a separated tissue culture room to be shared by Dr. Guseman and the future recruit. Rooms 2124A, 2126, 2130, 2130A, as well as a portion of 2124 formerly supported a Principal Investigator for wet lab use. This space will be converted into a biochemistry lab for the new Dean of Physical Sciences, Christine Hrycyna. To maximize daylighting some exterior modifications may be considered, pending costs and schedule evaluation. Minimum lab requirements provided with iCM008 in Information Available to Bidders. Restroom renovations may be required, field assessment and code evaluations to be included in project as part of the Architect initial studies. Project duration is 430 calendar days (215 Preconstruction Days and 215 Construction Days). Only prequalified bidders will be allowed to submit a Bid on this project. The following bidders have been prequalified to bid on this project: 'Bidders shall come prepared with questions concerning needed clarifications and shall only send their project manager, superintendent, or other construction professional intended to work on the project to attend this meeting. For further information, contact the University's Representative, Bethany French, Project Manager, at (858)665-1065. The deadline for receipt of requests for products, materials or equipment specified by name may be required prior to the Bid Deadline. The Bidding Documents should be reviewed for further details. Bid Security in the amount of 10% of the Anticipated Contract Amount shall accompany each Bid. The surety issuing the Bid Bond shall be, on the Bid Deadline, an admitted surety insurer (as defined in California Code of Civil Procedure Section 995.120). The apparent responsible bidder will be selected on the basis of the Best Value to the University. The objective criteria and methodology used to determine Best Value are described in the Bidding Documents. The best value to the University is the selection resulting in the best combination of price and qualifications. The successful Bidder and its subcontractors will be required to follow the nondiscrimination requirements set forth in the Bidding Documents and to pay prevailing wage rates at the location of the work. The successful Bidder will be required to have the following California current and active contractor's license at the time of submission of the Bid: License B, General Building Contractor. Every effort will be made to ensure that all persons have equal access to contracts and other business opportunities with the University within the limits imposed by law or University policy. Each Bidder may be required to show evidence of its equal employment opportunity policy. The successful Bidder and its subcontractors will be required to follow the nondiscrimination requirements set forth in the Bidding Documents and to pay prevailing wage at the location of the work. In addition, the University is committed to promoting and increasing participation of small business enterprises (SBEs) and disabled veteran business enterprises (DVBEs) relating to all goods and services covered under the awarded agreement, subject to any and all applicable obligations under state and federal law, and University policies. The awarded contractor shall make best efforts to provide qualified SBEs and DVBEs with the maximum opportunity to participate. The work described in the contract is a public work subject to section 1771 of the California Labor Code. Contractors and subcontractors on all public works projects must use the DIR's upgraded electronic certified payroll reporting (eCPR) system to furnish certified payroll records (CPRs) to the Labor Commissioner. No contractor or subcontractor, regardless of tier, may be listed on a Bid for, or engage in the performance of, any portion of this project, unless registered with the Department of Industrial Relations pursuant to Labor Code section 1725.5 and 1771.1. This project is subject to compliance monitoring and enforcement by the Department of Industrial Relations. The successful Bidder shall pay all persons providing construction services and/or any labor on site, including any University location, no less than the UC Fair Wage (defined as $15 per hour) and shall comply with all applicable federal, state and local working condition requirements.
