(KWQC) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, in partnership with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, are planning two habitat rehabilitation and enhancement projects on the Mississippi River in Pools 12 and 13 and are looking for public input, according to a media release from officials. Opportunities for the public to learn more and provide feedback will be held on April 30 and May 1, in two locations to highlight the different projects. The two projects include: April 30 in Clinton, Iowa- Phase II of the Lower Pool 13 Habitat Rehabilitation and Enhancement Project will be featured during a public open house from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Eagle Point Lodge located at 4101 N. Third St. in Clinton. Lands included in the Lower Pool 13 Phase II project are part of the Upper Mississippi National Wildlife and Fish Refuge and consist of backwater lakes, sloughs, flowing channels, and impounded water residing over historically flooded islands and remnant islands May 1 in Dubuque, Iowa- The Pool 12 Forestry Habitat Rehabilitation and Enhancement Project will be featured during a public open house from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the EB Lyons Interpretive Center located at 8991 Bellevue Heights Rd. in Dubuque. The project area covers approximately 26 miles of Pool 12 in the Upper Mississippi River, from Lock and Dam 12 near Bellevue, Iowa, to Lock and Dam 11 in Dubuque During each open house, a team of subject matter experts will provide an overview of the project and cover potential options for restoration and enhancement of the area, officials said. The public is invited to provide feedback and engage in discussion about the project. After the presentation, representatives from the partnering agencies will be available to answer questions and gather input from the community. For additional information, click here. ________________________________ The bulk of the existing infrastructure will remain intact, with a few notable exceptions defined herein. Highlights include an expanded outdoor otter habitat, a Driftless Area aviary, a new area to highlight local animal species of conservation importance, the moving of our Paddlefish aquarium, and a new Brook Trout stream. The overall scope of work will include concrete, general construction, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and more. The project will be done in two phases with some interior work but mainly the exterior work in the first phase and the balance of interior work in the second phase. Project Location: 350 East 3rd Street, Dubuque, Iowa. The work shall commence following the award of the contract currently planned for April 20, 2023 by the Museum. Work will be done in two phases. Phase 1 will be mainly exterior work and occur between May 2024 and September 2024. Phase 2 will be mainly interior work and occur between November 2024 and February 2025.
