The building is made of Montreal limestone, while the architecture was inspired by the University of Edinburgh. The building is located at the end of the main street and its geometry is accentuated in relation to the campus. The axis of the main building, flanked by these west and east wings, creates a visual impact complemented by the central dome and its neo-Greek ornamentation. Additionally, its central and eastern sections were built in the neoclassical style. The interior of the Arts Building reflects the historic reputation of McGill University, with its stained glass light fixtures, black marble columns, pink marble floors and oak furniture. Nearly two centuries later, many architects contributed to the construction and design of what is today the Arts Building at McGill University. This project includes the replacement of the fire curtain between the Arts and Leacock buildings and the reintegration of the new systems into the building's fire alarm panel. *Award is subject to final approval.
