Description

Site work and new construction of a clubhouse / community center in Greater Sudbury, Ontario. Conceptual plans call for the construction of a 76,000-square-foot, one-story above grade clubhouse / community center.

Construction of a new sports complex to include: A twin pad arena (NHL-size rinks, each with 400-seat capacity, one fully accessible ice pad). Eight change rooms and referee change rooms per ice surface; Gymnasium (multipurpose sports programming, such as indoor soccer training, pickleball, exercise classes, etc.); Heated viewing area; Café/restaurant/concessions; Public concourse/lobby space; Support spaces. TIMELINE: Project is conceptual & seeking funding. An Architect has not been secured to date. The proposed complex will be 76,000 sq ft. and located on the Howard Armstrong Recreation Centre property. Application to the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings program for $21.2 million in federal funding which was not successful. The owner is looking into other funding opportunities. A report was presented to council in September with alternatives such as Tensioned Fabric Structures, Pre-engineered or Progressive Design/Build approach. Updates may be available spring 2026.
