The City of Durham Department of Water Management is seeking contractor assistance to provide trucking services for hauling biosolids (driver only) at North Durham Water Reclamation Facility. The contractor must provide one driver to haul material 8 hours per day, 5 days per week at the North Durham Water Reclamation Facility to meet the minimum requirements of this RFP. The City anticipates that at the conclusion of the RFP process will be a contract between the City and the contractor, for a 3-year period, under which the contractor shall provide the services described below and agreed upon during negotiations. The contract to be executed by the City and the selected firm will be on a unit price basis, adjusted annually, based on then current CPI data. The North Durham Water Reclamation Facility (NDWRF) treats approximately 10 million gallons per day of municipal wastewater. A byproduct of this process is biosolids cake, created by using a belt filter press to remove water from sanitized sludge. The biosolids drop from the belt filter press, through a hopper and into the bed of a dump truck. Biosolids production is performed in the biosolids building on the NDWRF A-side, on the south side of East Club Boulevard. When the dump truck is full, the hopper is closed, the full dump truck is moved from under the hopper, the second dump truck is moved under the hopper, and the hopper is reopened to drop biosolids into the second dump truck. The full dump truck is then driven to one of two destinations, either the City of Durham's composting facility at 2115 E Club Blvd, Durham, NC or to South Durham Water Reclamation Facility at 6605 Farrington Rd, Chapel Hill, NC.
