https://www.bizjournals.com/tampabay/news/2024/08/13/port-and-tpa-poised-to-embrace-regions-growth.html Port Tampa Bay and Tampa International Airport prepare for the region’s rapid growth Port Tampa Bayexpand Port Tampa Bay Nola Laleye Breanne Williams By Breanne Williams – Reporter, Tampa Bay Business Journal Aug 13, 2024 Listen to this article 4 min Leaders of two of Tampa Bay's largest economic drivers said their expansion plans will ensure they’re ready to respond to the surge in population the region has seen in the past few years. Paul Anderson, president and CEO of Port Tampa Bay, and Chris Minner, executive vice president of marketing and communications for Tampa International Airport, spoke about Tampa’s infrastructure Tuesday morning at the Tampa Bay Economic Development Council’s annual State of Tampa Bay event. Both the port and TPA are undergoing expansions as part of their respective master plans. TPA serves roughly 25 million passengers a year and expects that to grow to approximately 35 million passengers by 2037. It is currently implementing its three-phase master plan, which Minner said lays out how it will invest roughly $1 billion in infrastructure at the airport. Several major projects are in the pipeline for TPA including the addition of a 16-gate Airside D facility, which is expected to open in 2028. The $1.5 billion facility is roughly 600,015 square feet and is expected to break ground later this year. Roughly 15 minutes from the airport lies Port Tampa Bay, which encompasses 5,000 acres along Tampa’s waterfront. Anderson said that as Florida’s population has boomed, the port has become a “preferred supply chain solution” for companies wanting to import and export goods from Florida’s fastest-growing regions. The rapidly expanding number of distribution centers along the Interstate 4 corridor between Tampa and Orlando has led to an increase in cargo shipments through the port. Anderson said the port is staying ahead of the curve as demand for the container terminals also continues to grow. Anderson said the port is working through its Vision 2030 plan and has expanded several infrastructure components to make the port more efficient. Construction is underway to add 30 acres of paved storage — for a total of 100 acres — to serve the container business. It also expects to have a record-breaking year for cruise passengers and recently announced plans to develop a fourth cruise terminal to handle the increased capacity. ___________________________________________________________ The Hillsborough County Aviation Authority (Authority), an independent special district, issues this Request for Qualifications (Solicitation) for Continuing Environmental Engineering Consulting Services for Tampa International, Peter O.
