The Town of Berwick Electric Commission (BEC) is a municipally owned electric utility that provides electricity to over 1,600 customers in and to the south of Berwick, Nova Scotia proper. BEC owns and operates a hundred-year-old hydroelectric facility in Factorydale, Nova Scotia which generates on average 4% of the utility's overall energy load. The BEC invites qualified engineering firms to submit proposals for a Dam Safety Review of our concrete head pond dam in Factorydale based on the Safety Guidelines of the Canadian Dam Association. The structure was built in 1919-20 and has been repaired and improved over its service life. Most recently (2008), the spillway was redesigned with a proper ogee form, new stoplogs and catwalk. At that time, the concrete dam - a gravity structure - was rockbolted and ballasted with armour stone. The structure is about 100 meters in length and 7 meters in height at the spillway. There is a 2006 Dam Safety Review and a 2005 Inundation Study available for review. Estimated Duration of Contract (months) 1 The method of Contractor Selection has not been Determined at this time
