Plans call for the FAA to build a new control tower at Athens-Ben Epps Airport within a year and a half to two years. This project is part of a $500 million FAA project to replace aging control towers across the US. The new tower is to be built as part of the FAA's Sustainable Tower Design Initiative which uses recycled materials, thermal efficiency and all-electric operating systems. As of May 14, 2024, the FAA has chosen a tower design from the architect for this project. Information regarding a general contractor is not available.
