Q & A deadline: Jun 07, 2024 5:00:00 PM EDT The Ports Southport ship to shore container cranes are operated by an operator that sits in a cabin suspended from the trolley. The trolley runs along a set of rails that are located on both sides of the boom and girder. The operator, via the trolley master stick, commands the trolley to move over the ship to either lift cargo on or off the ship. The process of moving a container on or off the ship involves the use of the cranes spreader bar. The spreader will latch (locks) or unlatch (unlocks) into a container. The container is then lifted and moved over to the dock and placed (discharged) on a truck chassis (trailer) to then be taken to the storage order yard. The trolley rail system is a critical component which make trolley travel possible. The trolley rails and reinforcing bedplates on cranes identified as SP-1, 2 3 are nearing the end of their service life. This project is intended to replace the trolley rails, rail components, fabricate a new grouted rail bed plate, repair the boom lacing pockets and replace the trolley wheels to restore the cranes to operational condition.
