Renovation of a municipal facility in Northampton, Massachusetts. Working plans call for the renovation of a municipal facility.
As of May 8, 2025, an architect has been selected and this project is in the final planning phase. It is anticipated bidding will commence in summer 2025. A firm timeline for construction has not been determined. This project is included in the City of Northampton FY 2026-2030 CIP. The existing City Hall standing seam metal roof is literally decades past its expected lifetime. Over a decade or more ago, the city applied an elastomeric roof coating to the entire metal roof in order to extend its lifetime by a few years. Those extra years have passed. In fact, the smallest wind storm is blowing this temporary coating off and exposing the flakey soft rusted metal roof with holes underneath. Central Services typically has a roofer repair the active leaks 2-3 times a year. Due to the height of the roof and the need for a lift, these ongoing band-aid expenses are adding up. Replacing the existing roof with a standing seam metal roof, will prepare the roof for attachment of a future solar array *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
