Demolition, site work, paving and new construction of a bridge / tunnel in New Hampton, New Hampshire. Conceptual plans call for the demolition of a bridge / tunnel; for the construction of a bridge / tunnel; for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and for paving for a bridge / tunnel.
Constructed in 1934, the Smiths Crossing Bridge carries Jackson Pond Road over the historic New Hampshire Railroad, which is currently used by the Plymouth and Lincoln Railroad. The bridge is a timber bridge, with no major rehabilitations. Jackson Pond Road is currently an unmaintained Class 6 town road, which is overgrown, deteriorated and is not used for vehicular traffic. Additional information concerning the bridge structure should be addressed to David Scott, PE, Project Manager, Bureau of Bridge Design, New Hampshire Department of Transportation at (603) 271- 2731 or david.l.scott@dot.nh.gov. Historic Covenant information and questions concerning these covenants should be addressed to Jillian Edelmann, Cultural Resources Program Manager, Bureau of Environment, New Hampshire Department of Transportation at Jillian.L.Edelmann@dot.nh.gov, or (603) 271-3226. The successful entity must remove the structure from State-owned land upon written approval of the Contractor. Currently, the project schedule estimates bridge removal in June-July 2025. The removal and site cleanup must be completed in accordance with the bridge removal/replacement and Contractors schedule. Forty-five (45) calendar days will be provided for the work to be completed.
