A timeline for award has not yet been established.** Replacement of Bridge MT-18 on Whipporwill Valley Road and Bridge MT-19 on Chapel Hill Road Over Mcclees Creek in the Township of Middletown Bids must be made on standard RFB forms in the manner designated and required by the specifications. The work to be performed under this Contract consists of the replacement of two bridges: Bridge MT18 on Whipporwill Valley Road and Bridge MT-19 on Chapel Hill Road, both over McClees Creek in the Township of Middletown, Monmouth County, NJ. The bridges shall be replaced consecutively with MT-18 being replaced first, followed by MT-19. The Contractor shall be responsible for the maintenance of stream flow at both MT-18 & MT-19 and shall submit a maintenance of stream flow plan under the temporary cofferdam pay item. Whipporwill Valley Road and Chapel Hill Road will be permitted to be closed during construction; however the Contractor is advised that access must be maintained to all residential properties and driveways within the project limits. The existing structures of both MT-18 & MT-19 shall be removed in their entirety except for salvaging as much of the existing brick and stone masonry as possible for reuse as stone veneer during the construction of the new structures. The architectural intent of this project is to match the overall look of the MT-18 & MT-19 structures as they existed historically, prior to their many recent repairs and reconstructions. Historical photographs of each structure have been included within the Plans and Specifications. The work under this project includes all required labor, equipment, material and other incidental and necessary work shown on the Construction Plan and as further described herein in accordance with the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction and these Special Provisions, or as directed by the RE. MT-18 Work shall include the removal of the existing bridge comprised of peanut stone masonry arch, substructure, and parapet. Steel channel and W-Beam stringers embedded in previous cast-in-place concrete repairs shall also be demolished. The existing structure shall be removed in its entirety except for salvaging of the existing masonry for reuse as stone veneer during construction of the new structure. The new structure shall be comprised of a single span precast concrete arch structure manufactured by Contech including precast concrete express foundations, precast concrete wingwalls, and precast concrete headwalls and parapet. The wingwalls and parapet shall be faced with peanut stone veneer including a peanut stone cap as shown on the plans. Guiderail shall extend from the parapets on all four corners. Permanent steel sheet pile cofferdams shall be constructed in front of the bridge and wingwall footings along with the installation of temporary cofferdam to facilitate excavation. Proposed improvements entail the realignment, widening and profile upgrades to Whipporwill Valley Road. This work includes the reconstruction of gravel roadway, beam guide rail installation, topsoiling, fertilizing, seeding, and mulching, sign installation, and any other incidental and necessary work shown on the construction Plans and as further described herein. MT-19 Work shall include the removal of the existing bridge which is comprised of a brick arch, rubble stone masonry substructure and a 15"+- thick concrete slab constructed over the arch as a repair in 2015. The existing structure shall be removed in its entirety except for salvaging of the existing masonry for reuse as stone veneer during construction of the new structure. The new structure shall be comprised of a single span precast concrete box culvert with arched end sections, precast concrete L-shaped wingwalls, cast-in-place closure pours and solid concrete parapet with stone veneer facing as shown on the plans. Guiderail shall extend from the parapets on all four corners. Permanent steel sheet pile cofferdam shall be constructed along the upstream and downstream faces of the structure along with the installation of temporary cofferdam to facilitate excavation. Proposed improvements entail the relocation of underground and overhead utilities ahead of the bridge reconstruction and the realignment, widening and profile upgrades to Chapel Hill Road, as well as improvements on the intersecting road of Whipporwill Valley Road. This work includes the construction of full depth pavement, concrete curb, drainage improvements; beam guide rail installation, application of nonvegetative surface, milling and overlaying of the roadway; topsoiling, fertilizing, seeding, and mulching; signing and striping; and any other incidental and necessary work shown on the construction Plans and as further described herein. The attention of the Contractor is called to the presence of various utilities that require relocation and/or temporary support/protection during construction. Specifics regarding same are discussed further in Subsection 105.07 of the Special Provisions. The Contractor shall verify all underground utilities before construction. The Contractor is advised that he/she is responsible for all work under this Contract except for the relocation of utility facilities and that no work is to be performed "by others". All utility facilities requiring relocation are to be relocated by the various utility companies. The Contractor will be responsible for coordination and scheduling of his/her work to assist the utility companies with their relocations, as well as providing temporary support and relocation for specific utilities as called for in the plans and these Special Provisions. Specifics regarding the same are discussed further in Sections 105 and 201 of these Special Provisions.
