TPA received more than $3 million for grading improvements for taxiway and runway safety areas. The $4.1 million project will address turf buildup, asphalt restoration and drainage issues. Design work for the project is scheduled to start in October. TPA is also receiving more than $2.1 million to purchase and install a temporary flood barrier. The project is roughly $2.8 million, and design work is scheduled to begin in October. The barrier can be deployed around the airfield’s electrical and lighting vault buildings, which will help keep power on during storm surges or flooding events. The vaults are near Airside A and are next to the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Facility. Both projects are part of the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority’s Fiscal Year 2025 Capital Improvement Program. The U.S. Department of Transportation’s FAA announced this month that more than 500 projects will receive $1.9 billion in funding. An additional $269 million was also announced in FY 2023 Supplemental Discretionary Grants to fund 62 projects at 56 U.S. airports. This is the fifth round of AIP grants and the largest announcement in program history. AIP grants fund multiple airport projects, including runways, taxiways, lighting, signage and markings. Each year, the federal grants pay a portion of the eligible project and are funded by taxes on tickets, aviation fuel and other fees. “The Biden-Harris Administration is funding projects across the country that are making airports safer and more efficient for the passengers who travel through them and for the airport and airline employees who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make these complex systems run as smoothly as possible,” U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg said in a statement. ___________________________________ The Project scope includes rehabilitation of the exterior building envelope and HVAC controls at the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Station at Tampa International Airport.
