Site work and new construction of a mixed-use development in Vancouver, British Columbia. Design plans call for the construction of a 637,288-square-foot, 22-story above grade, 1,513-bed educational facility; and for site work for a educational facility.
New UBC Lower Mall Precinct Phase 1 at the Vancouver campus. The UBC Point Grey campus is situated within the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the (Musqueam).Through a series of phases, UBC is re-envisioning the western edge of the campus to create a resilient and adaptive student residence community. The first of these projects will create a graduate student-focused community with approximately 1513 beds in a range of unit types. TIMELINE: A preferred proponent has been chosen to provide Architectural Services for the project . The consultant will develop a single prototype eight-storey hybrid mass timber and wood frame structure and adaptively re-use UBC's Heritage Fire Hall. They will need to understand and embrace the natural systems of and surrounding the 6-acre site to design an architecture that is resilient and adaptable as the climate and the community changes over the next 100 years. Construction is anticipated to commence in 2026. Further update in fall 2025. * 3XN/GXD and Ryder Architecture are partnering to provide architectural services for the project. *The construction budget for this facility is estimated to be $330 million.
