Site work and paving for a road / highway in Champaign, Illinois. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; and for paving for a road / highway.

The Champaign Park District is requesting bids for patching, crack filling, sealcoating, and line striping at various locations throughout the District. Enclosed is a copy of the bid information. Provide any traffic control, barricades, etc. to protect the public from entering any of the work areas. 2. If requested, Contractor shall place a test strip of any paint, crack filler, or seal coat proposed for use. 3.02 Sealer 1. Sealcoat material shall meet or exceed all composition and performance requirements of ASTM D5727 2. Sealcoat shall be highly resistant to gasoline, oil, and ultraviolet light. 3. Application a) Apply to clean and sound asphalt pavement free from dirt, loose and foreign materials. b) Wide cracks and alligatored areas must be repaired prior to application. c) Oil and grease spots shall be properly cleaned and primed prior to sealing. d) Vegetation shall be treated with a water based herbicide at least a week prior to sealing and removed during final surface preparations. Vegetation may be removed with a power wire brush instead of herbicide treatment. e) Apply using spray, mechanical squeegee, brush or rubber squeegee designed for such purposes. f) Application equipment shall be capable of applying a sufficient quantity of sealer to the pavement to ensure a uniform coating of sealer. g) Latex additive shall be added to the sealer to improve durability, gas and oil resistance, drying time and color per manufacturers' recommendations. h) Two coats of sealer shall be applied i) Repair areas or new asphalt pavements shall not be sealed until they have cured a minimum of 60 days and preferably after one winter period. 4. Successful bidder shall supply product information and application information for the pavement sealer used. 3.03 3.04 3.05 Crack filling 1. Crack fill material shall meet or exceed the requirements of ASTM 6690 (formerly ASTM 3405) 2. Cracks 1/4 " to 3/4 " wide shall be routed to a width of 3/4 " and blown out with compressed air prior to filling. 3. Cracks wider the 3/4 " shall be cleaned using a power wire brush and blown out with compressed air prior to filling. A backer rod may be used to prevent the use of excess crack fill material. If used, backer rod shall be placed to a depth to allow 3/4 " of crack fill material. 4. Hairline cracks and any alligatored areas, not previously repaired shall not be crack filled. 5. Successful bidder shall supply product information and application for the crack fill material. No handpots permitted. Traffic Marking Paint 1. Surface must be clean, dry, and in sound condition. 2. Remove all oil, dust, grease, and dirt to insure adequate adhesion. 3. Paint shall be applied with airless spray line striping equipment. 4. Paint shall be delivered ready to use and thinning is not allowed 5. Successful bidder shall supply product information and application information for the traffic marking paint. Asphalt Patching 1. Patches shall be milled out or sawcut and removed with a backhoe or other method approved by owner. 2. If 4" removal does not get down to the aggregate base, the patch area shall be swept clean and tack primed prior to placing the asphalt patch. If 4" removal does get down to the aggregate base, it shall be graded and rolled or plate tamped prior to placing the asphalt patch. 3. Asphalt shall be obtained from an IDOT approved asphalt plant. 4. Asphalt shall be placed in lifts of approximately 2" and compacted prior to placing the next lift. 5. Asphalt patches shall not be sealcoated, but shall be striped over in areas where striping is required.
