The Contractor further agrees to pay as liquidated damages, the sum of $500.00 for each calendar day that any work remains uncompleted after the time specified above or after any extensions of time as are provided in the General Provisions. It is understood between the parties hereto that the sum of $500.00 per day shall be treated as liquidated damages and not as a penalty, and the Owner may withhold from the Contractor's compensation such sums as liquidated damages
