Traffic Impact: English is CLOSED between Broadway and Topeka. Broadway is reduced to one lane in each direction between William and English. William is reduced to one lane westbound only between Broadway and Topeka. Topeka is reduced to one lane northbound only between William and English. Sidewalk is CLOSED on all sides adjacent to construction. City Contact: Miriam Lopez (268-4276 / mlopez@wichita.gov) Estimated completion: 3rd Qtr. 2027 Bleckley Paving and Incidental Drainage Improvements Phase 1: This project will reconstruct the existing drainage channel between Kellogg and Waterman and repave Bleckley Street. Traffic Impact: Traffic on Bleckley Street, from Lewis to Kellogg, will be reduced to one lane. Bleckley Street will be fully closed between Lewis and Waterman Street. Additionally, Lewis Street, from Oliver to Bleckley, will be restricted to local traffic only. Contractor: Wildcat Construction Co, Inc. City Contact: Steven Lowe (268-4022 / slowe@wichita.gov) Estimated completion: 2nd Qtr. 2026 Hydraulic Avenue, E 39th Street N to E 45th Street N: This project will perform bridge repairs on Hydraulic Avenue between 39th Street and 45th Street. Traffic Impact: Hydraulic Avenue is CLOSED North of E 37th Street N and South of E 45th Street N. Traffic will be detoured on 37th Street east to Hillside Street, north to 45th Street, west to Hydraulic Avenue. Access to residences and businesses will remain open to local traffic. City Contact: Bryan Hamel (268-4047 / bhamel@wichita.gov) Estimated completion: 1st Qtr. 2026 District 2 (No projects at this time) District 3 I-135 Sanitary Sewer Relocation: This project will reconstruct the sanitary sewer pipe that is currently located under the south bound lanes of I-135 with the new line being constructed along Southeast Boulevard and within the adjacent neighborhood south of Pawnee. Traffic Impact: Southeast Boulevard is reduced to one lane in each direction from Pawnee to south of Wassall. Left turns are restricted from Southeast Boulevard onto Pawnee. Left turns at the intersection of Wassall and Southeast Boulevard are restricted for eastbound Wassall onto Southeast Boulevard and northbound Southeast Boulevard onto Wassall. Southbound I-135 off ramp onto Pawnee is OPEN to one lane of traffic. Contractor: S.J. Louis Construction City Contact: Kyle Kerns (268-4044 / kkerns@wichita.gov) Estimated completion: 1st Qtr. 2026 Mount Vernon Street – SE Blvd. to Oliver: This project will perform concrete repairs and place an asphalt overlay on Mount Vernon Street, including revised pavement markings to convert Mount Vernon to a 3-lane roadway. A new signalized crosswalk will be installed at Estelle Street and Bluff Street, and traffic signal improvements will be made at SE Blvd., Hillside, George Washington Blvd., and OliverTraffic Impact: Southeast Boulevard is reduced to one lane in each direction from Pawnee to south of Wassall. Left turns are restricted from Southeast Boulevard onto Pawnee. Left turns at the intersection of Wassall and Southeast Boulevard are restricted for eastbound Wassall onto Southeast Boulevard and northbound Southeast Boulevard onto Wassall. Southbound I-135 off ramp onto Pawnee is OPEN to one lane of traffic. Traffic Impact: Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction on Mount Vernon from George Washington Boulevard to Oliver. Contractor: Prado Construction City Contact: Steven Lowe (268-4022 / slowe@wichita.gov) Estimated completion: 2nd Qtr. 2026 District 4 West Street, Pawnee to Harry, including Pawnee and Southwest Boulevard Intersections: This project will convert West Street from a four-lane roadway to five-lane. The project performs drainage system, waterline, and pedestrian improvements. The intersections of Pawnee and Southwest Boulevard will be reconfigured and reconstructed. Traffic Impact: Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction on West Street from south of Pawnee to Harry. Left turns are restricted from West Street onto Southwest Boulevard. Pawnee is OPEN to one lane in each direction from West Street to Sheridan Street. Contractor: Wildcat Construction City Contact: Kyle Kerns (268-4044 / kkerns@wichita.gov) Estimated completion: 2nd Qtr. 2026 West Street, 47th to MacArthur: This project will convert West Street from a two-lane roadway to three-lane including a left center turn lane, curb, and drainage improvements. The project will also include a 10-feet wide multi-use path and six feet sidewalk along West Street for the length of the project. The intersection of West and 47th Streets will be reconstructed and will remain a four way stop with dedicated left turn lanes for all directions. Traffic Impact: West Street is northbound traffic from 47th Street South to MacArthur. Traffic is detoured utilizing MacArthur, Meridian, and 47th Street South. Contractor: Pearson Construction LLC City Contact: Kyle Kerns (268-4044 / kkerns@wichita.gov) Estimated completion: 2nd Qtr. 2026 K-42 at I-235 Intersection: This project performs intersection improvements which include turn lane extensions on K-42 onto I-235. Lighting and traffic signal improvements will be made to allow access to a new development south of K-42. Traffic Impact: K-42 is reduced to one lane in each direction in the area of construction. Contractor: Wildcat Construction City Contact: Kyle Kerns (268-4044 / kkerns@wichita.gov) Estimated completion: 1st Qtr. 2026 Intersection of Pawnee Avenue and Glenn Avenue: This project will repair existing brick crosswalk at the intersection of Pawnee Avenue and Glenn Avenue. Traffic Impact: Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction on Pawnee Avenue east of Glenn Avenue. The inside lanes of Pawnee Ave. including the left turn lane WB to SB Glenn Street will be closed. Once the completion (Approximately 7 to 10 days) of the inside lanes on Pawnee Avenue, traffic will be shifted to utilize the inside lanes and the outside lanes will be closed to traffic. The left turn lane WB Pawnee Avenue to SB Glenn Avenue will be reopened to traffic after the completion of the inside lanes of Pawnee Ave. Contractor: PPJ Construction, Inc. Traffic Impact: Both southbound lanes of U.S. 81 will be closed, with traffic shifted to a head-to-head configuration on the northbound lanes. Access to businesses within the closure area will be maintained Contractor: Interstate Improvement KDOT Contact: J.B. Wilson (337-7331 / JB.Wilson@ks.gov ) Estimated completion: Summer 2025 North Junction to I-135/K-96 Interchange – The Gold Project, Phase 2B: This phase includes a direct link from EB K-96 (from NB I-235) to EB K-96 at the junction on I-135, and new ramps for WB K-96 onto I-135. Additional project information can be found at www.135Gold.com. Traffic Impact: Starting Monday, Sept. 8 the Kansas Department of Transportation will close the right outside lane of the northbound I-135 to southbound I-235 flyover ramp in Wichita. A width restriction of 11 feet will also be in effect on the ramp. Westbound K-96 to Hydraulic Avenue ramp is CLOSED. An 11-foot width restriction on the two lanes of southboundI-135, south of the I-235/K-254 overpass, is in effect (along with a 50-mph work zone speed limit). Southbound I-135 exit to eastbound K-96 has an 11-foot width restriction. Contractor: Bergkamp – King Venture KDOT Contact: J.B. Wilson (337-7331 / JB.Wilson@ks.gov ) Estimated completion: Late 2026 US 54 (Kellogg) between Broadway Street and I-135: This project will make pavement repairs on U.S. 54 between Broadway and I-135. Traffic Impact: All lanes and ramps in both directions are now OPEN, work continues beneath the bridge. Construction is anticipated to be completed by November. Contractor: Interstate Improvement KDOT Contact: J.B. Wilson (337-7331 / JB.Wilson@ks.gov ) Estimated completion: November 2025 Tyler Road between W. 37th Street & W. 47th Street: This project will make repairs to the Tyler Road bridge Traffic Impact: Tyler Rd. has single-lane closures in both directions with portable traffic signals controlling alternating traffic.12’ width restriction is in effect. Contractor: Wildcat Construction KDOT Contact: J.B. Wilson (337-7331 / JB.Wilson@ks.gov ) Estimated completion: Late 2025 I-135 between Lincoln Street and Douglas Avenue: The project includes bridge construction at the interchange, including bridge replacement and deck rehabilitation. Traffic Impact: The ramp from I-135 northbound to U.S. 54 westbound is CLOSED, as well as on I-135, the two inside lanes will be closed in both directions as work takes place between Lincoln Street and Douglas Avenue at the I-135 and U.S. 54/Kellogg interchange. On U.S. 54, the two inside lanes will be closed in both directions from Hillside to Topeka. Contractor: A.M. Cohron & Son KDOT Contact: J.B. Wilson (337-7331 / JB.Wilson@ks.gov ) Estimated completion: Late 2027 K-15 Bridge at the I-135 Drainage Canal: This project will make repairs to the K-15 bridge at the I-135 drainage canal. Traffic Impact: The southbound K-15 bridge over the Wichita Drainage Canal will be CLOSED to traffic. Exit 3A, the southbound I-135 ramp to K-15, will also be CLOSED. A detour will direct drivers south on I-135 to the S. Hydraulic Avenue exit, then east on E. MacArthur Road and south on Southeast Boulevard to rejoin K-15.
